1838: To celebrate Queen Victoria’s Coronation, a days of sports took place in the village with races run between the Old Bell signpost and the White Hart.
June 1934: it was reported that due to lack of interest the North Cotswold Athletic Club would probably be disbanded (Evesham Standard, 9th June 1934).
February 1940: Cross Country Championships at Broadway
Organised by St Gregory’s Athletic Club, Cheltenham, and Broadway Athletic Club, cross country championships took place in heavy snow in February 1940 in Broad Close Field.
The Committee of Broadway Athletic Club who organised the event were: Frank Folkes, Charles Chappell, Reg Warters, Charles Steward, Harry Dennick, Maurice Andrews, Bill Tustin, Alec Knight and Bob Nash.
Teams from Birchfield Harriers, Small Heath, West Bromwich and Birmingham Atlanta attended. Mrs D Harris (Birchfield) won the Midland Senior Championship (3 miles) in 22 minutes and 37 seconds. Larry Cummins spoke of the absence of may athletes serving in the Armed Forces and thanked Broadway Athletic Club for organising the event.
